Did you know? More than 12 percent of the U.S. population will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime and an estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disease. Women are five to eight times more likely than men to have thyroid problems. Fortunately, most thyroid diseases can be managed but unfortunately, the causes of of thyroid problems are largely unknown. Here are some other facts from the American Thyroid Association:
- Up to 60 percent of those with thyroid disease are unaware of their condition.
- One woman in eight will develop a thyroid disorder during her lifetime.
- Most thyroid cancers respond to treatment, although a small percentage can be very aggressive.
- Undiagnosed thyroid disease may put patients at risk for certain serious conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and infertility.
- Pregnant women with undiagnosed or inadequately treated hypothyroidism have an increased risk of miscarriage, preterm delivery, and severe developmental problems in their children.
Not really sure what the thyroid actually does? The APA breaks down the form and function of the thyroid for us. The thyroid is a hormone-producing gland that regulates the body’s metabolism – the rate at which your body produces energy from nutrients and oxygen – and affects critical functions, such as energy level and heart rate.
- The thyroid gland is located in the middle of the lower neck.
- Although the thyroid gland is relatively small, it produces a hormone that influences every cell, tissue and organ in the body.
- Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. Symptoms include extreme fatigue, depression, forgetfulness, and some weight gain.
- Hyperthyroidism, another form of thyroid disease, is a condition causing the gland to produce too much thyroid hormone. Symptoms include irritability, nervousness, muscle weakness, unexplained weight loss, sleep disturbances, vision problems and eye irritation.
- Graves’ disease is a type of hyperthyroidism; it is an autoimmune disorder that is genetic and estimated to affect one percent of the population.

THYROID YOGA™ TEACHER TRAINING WITH FERN OLIVIA
Fern Olivia’s Thyroid Yoga™ training premieres as an immersion course this November. This comprehensive training is taking place from November 3-6, 2016 in Los Angeles at RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Sciences & Technology, and also is available globally streaming live on RA MA TV.
The 35-hour training will provide practitioners with a deep understanding of the powerful tools and technologies to intuitively support their own health and the health of their communities, as well as to support recovery from imbalances affecting the thyroid and the glandular system.
INTIMATE CLASS COMMUNITY
All students are welcomed with a personal application & interview with Fern Olivia so that she can learn about each applicant’s journey and thus facilitate a special experience for each class member. The class size will be kept small and intimate, with a community fostered by Fern Olivia before, during and after the training. Opportunities to partner with other graduates around the world may naturally evolve after this experience. “We already have students traveling to Los Angeles from the east coast, Austria, and Berlin, as well as international students taking the training virtually all around the world. It is a dream come true to create a global movement in integrative thyroid healing and train the first wave of Thyroid Yoga™ certified practitioners!”
IN-DEPTH WESTERN AND EASTERN STUDIES
What makes this unique immersion stand out is the depth of knowledge offered across both western and eastern medical practices. A trained biomedical engineer, Fern Olivia combines her knowledge of the traditional medical field with her own holistic studies and personal journey with an autoimmune, underactive thyroid condition. Fern Olivia has brought in some of the brightest minds in functional medicine, Kundalini and Hatha Yoga, women’s health, and eastern healing to offer a well-rounded training to cover everything from the energetics around why you may be suffering from chronic symptoms to the mathematics behind your thyroid lab panel.
